• 雖然說我在歐洲前前後後住了不算短的日子喔

Suīrán shuō wǒ zài ōuzhōu qiánqiánhòuhòu zhù le bù duǎn de rìzǐ ō
Even though I have been living in Europe, up to now, for not a short period of time

• 那也常常自詡說:"噯,對歐洲人有些許的了解"

nà yě chángcháng zìxǔ shuō: "ài, duì ōuzhōurén yǒu xiēxǔ de liǎojiě"
I still often boast to myself, "Oh, I do understand the Europeans some."

• 那很多些生活習慣(啊),思想方面不同的一些的看法呢

Nà hěn duō xiē shēnghuó xíguàn (ā), sīxiǎng fāngmiàn bùtóng de yìxiē de kànfǎ ne,
Regarding their daily habits, different ways of thinking,

• 也漸漸能夠了解說:"噯,這個就是歐洲人他們思考邏輯喔"

yě jiànjiàn nénggòu liǎojiě shuō: "ài, zhège jiù shì ōuzhōu rén tāmen sīkǎo luójí ō".
I slowly came to understand them, thinking to myself, "Oh, this is the logic behind European thinking."

• 所以也不會像以前剛剛開始的時候, 覺得說, 唉, 好奇怪喔!

Suǒyǐ yě bùhuì xiàng yǐqián gānggāng kāishǐ de shíhòu, juéde shuō, ài, hǎo qíguài ō!
So I'm not like when I for first started, often feeling, "Huh? That's strange!"

• 然後, 常常用自己的角度去看對方(喔)

Ránhòu, chángcháng yòng zìjǐ de jiǎodù qù kàn duìfāng (ō).
And then proceeding to use my own personal point of view to evaluate others.

• 這個應該是說來到國外之後(喔), 一個很大的收獲.

Zhège yīnggāi shì shuō lái dào guówài zhīhòu (ō), yígě hěn dà de shōuhuò.
This is probably, since coming abroad, one of the biggest things I've gained.

• 這個世界之大真是無奇不有, 什麼樣的人都有什麼樣的想法.

Zhège shìjiè zhī dà zhēn shì wúqíbùyǒu, shéme yàng dé rén dōu yǒu shéme yàng de xiǎngfǎ.
The world is so big, it contains all kinds of things. Different people have different ways of thinking.

• 可是呢, 雖然說, 這麼久,我還是有一點一直很沒有辦法去理解的, 就是:

Kěshì ne, suīrán shuō, zhème jiǔ, wǒ háishì yǒu yìdiǎn yìzhí hěn méiyǒu bànfǎ qù lǐjiě de, jiù shì:
But, even though, after this long, there are still some things i can never understand, that is:

• 普遍來說(喔), 歐洲人(呢) 對美國人(呢)都不太友善.

Pǔpiàn lái shōu (ō), ōuzhōu rén (nē) duì Měiguórén (nē) dōu bù tài yǒushàn.
Generally speaking, Europeans are not too friendly towards Americans.

• 也不能說不太友善啦, 就是他們有點瞧不起美國人啦.

Yě bù néng shuō bù tài yǒushàn la, jiù shì tāmen yǒu diǎn qiánbùqǐ měiguórén la.
Well, not really not too friendly, but they kind of look down on Americans.

• 他們常常講的就是說: 啊...那個美國歷史這麼短啦, 沒有什麼文化啊.

Tāmen chángcháng jiǎng de jiùshì shuō: "à...Nàge Měiguó lìshǐ zhème duǎn la, méiyǒu shémé wénhuà ā."
They often say stuff like: "Oh, American history is so short, they don't have any culture."

• 講到美國人, 就算是歐洲有這樣子這麼多不同的國家喔,

Jiǎng dào Měiguórén, jiùsuàn shì ōuzhōu yǒu zhè yàngzi zhème duō bùtóng de guójiā ō,
Speaking of Americans, even though Europe has so many different countries,

• 那這麼多不同的國家的人, 他們統一的口徑(喔)真的有大部分的人(喔), 都是抱持這種比較(嗯)比較輕蔑的態度.

nà zhème duō bù tóng de guójiā dé rén, tāmen tǒngyī de kǒujǐng (ō) zhēnde yǒu dà bùfèn de ren (ō), dōu shì bǎochí zhè zhǒng bǐjiào (ēn) bǐjiào qīngmiè de tàidù.
and so many nationalities, they all have spoken with one voice, really, a majority of them, all seem to have, um, this dismissive(disdainful) attitude.

• 覺得說歐洲的歷史文化喔,思想文化是絕對高過美國的兩百年喔

Juéde shuō ōuzhōu de lìshǐ wénhuà ō, sīxiǎng wénhuà shì juéduì gāo guò Měiguó de liǎng bǎi nián ō.
That they feel the European culture, based on its history and thought, must be superior to the 200 years of American culture.

• 當然從客觀的角度來看,絕對沒有錯啦! 美國算是... 美國文化, 美國的歷史其實跟歐洲喔常有一個剪不斷理還亂的關係喔.

Dāngrán cóng kèguān de jiǎodù lái kàn, juéduì méiyǒu cuò la! Měiguó suàn shì...Měiguó wénhuà, Měiguó de lìshǐ qíshí gēn ōuzhōu ō cháng yǒu yì ge jiǎn bù duàn lǐ hái luàn de guānxi ō.
Although from an objective point of view, they are absolutely right! America is a, American culture, America's history actually often has this intertwining relationship with Europe.

• 那...嗯...美國有很大一部分的傳統啊思想啊源自於歐洲喔.

Nà...ēn...měiguó yǒu hěn dà yì bùfèn de chuántǒng ā sīxiǎng ā yuán zìyú ōuzhōu ō.
So...um... A large part of American tradition, the way people think, all comes from Europe.

• 那但是呢...很奇怪的一件事就是說, 雖然說這些歐洲人, 他們對於美國文化抱持比較那個輕蔑的態度喔.

Nà dànshì ne... hěn qíguài de yíjiàn shìqíng jiùshì shuō, suīrán shuō zhèxiē ōuzhōurén, tāmen duìyú měiguó wénhuà bǎochí bǐjiào nàge qīngmiè de tàidù ō.
But...the strange thing is that even though these Europeans maintain attitudes that tend to look down American culture,

• 但是呢...最奇怪的就是說喔他們還是啊照樣喜歡去看美國的電影, 那電視上面的呢...充滿的也是美國的影集喔.

Dàn shì ne... zuì qíguài de jiùshì shuō ō tāmen hái shì ā zhàoyàng xǐhuān qù kàn měiguó de diànyǐng, nà diànshì shàngmiàn dē nē... chōngmǎn dě yěshì měiguó de yǐngjí ō.

(But)...the strangest thing is that they still like to go see American movies, and their TVs are full of American shows, too.

• 說真的, 全世界的電影那麼多, 那當然好萊塢的文化呢是一個無庸置疑的, 是一個非常強勢的電影的文化.

Shuō zhēnde, quán shìjiè de diànyǐng nàme duō, nà dāngrán hǎoláiwù dé wénhuà nē shì yígè wúyōngzhìyí de, shì yígè fēicháng qiángshì diànyǐng dé wénhuà.

Honestly, the world has so many movies...And of course, Hollywood is undeniably a very strong force in the culture of movies

• 但是講到歐洲, 歐洲有自己的電影啊.

Dànshì jiǎng dào ōuzhōu, ōuzhōu yǒu zìjǐ de diànyǐng ā.
When talking about Europe, Europe has its own movie industry

• 像法國的電影, 像英國的電影喔這些呢常常也是讓影評人非常讚不絕口的喔.

Xiàng Fàguó de diànyǐng, xiàng Yīngguó de diànyǐng ō zhèxiē nē chángcháng yě shì ràng yǐngpíng rén féicháng zànbùjuékǒu de ō.
Like French films and British films, they are often enthusiastically praised by critics

• 說實在的,歐洲人啊他們並不是非常地去捧場喔.他們啊最喜歡的還是喜歡去看美國電影.

Shuō shízài de, ōuzhōurén ā tāmen bìng bùshì fēicháng de qù pěngchǎng ō. Tāmen ā zuì xǐhuān de háishì xǐhuān qù kàn měiguó diànyǐng.
In reality, Europeans simply don't support these movies often. They still like American movies the best.

• 在看電影的時候還要吃上這個是從美國來的爆米花, 還有美國來的可口可樂喔

Zài kàn diànyǐng de shíhòu háiyào chīshàng zhège shi cóng měiguó lái de bàomǐhuā, háiyǒu měiguó lái dě kěkǒukělè ō.

And while watching the movies, they also insist on eating popcorn from America and drinking American Coca-Cola as well.

• 那看電視的時候呢, 最喜歡看的也是 Desperate Housewives.

Nà kàn diànshì de shíhòu nē, zuì xǐhuān kàn dě yě shì Desperate Housewives.
And when watching TV, their favorite show is Desperate Housewives.

• 那個Desperate Housewives第二集呢在這個禮拜四要上演

Nàge Desperate Housewìves dì èr jí nē zài zhège lǐbài sì yǒu shàngyǎn.
Desperate Housewives season two is airing this thursday

• 那這邊的報紙啊, 雜誌啊,那大家喔也都是最近非常熱門的一個話題喔.

Nà zhè biān de bàozhǐ ā, zázhì ā, nà dàjiā ō yě dōu shì zuìjìn fēicháng rèmén de yì ge huátí ō.
So in the newspapers and magazines here, and for people too, this  has been a very popular topic lately..

• 說: "啊! 第二季終於要開演, 不知道又要演什麼" 這樣子喔.

Shuō : "ā! Diànshì zhōngyú yào kāiyǎn, bù zhīdào yòu yào yǎn shémè" zhè yàngzǐ ō.
[You can hear people] say stuff like: "Oh! Its finally starting, I wonder what's going to happen."

• 那我看到這一切行為, 我就覺得: 誒, 這些不是美國文化嗎?你們一方面又這麼貶低美國文化, 一方面又對這樣的文化非常地趨之若鶩喔

Nà wǒ kàn dào zhè yí qiè xíngwéi, wǒ jiù juédé: éi, zhèxiē bùshì Měiguó wénhuà ma? Nǐmen yì fāngmiàn yòu zhème biǎndī Měiguó wénhuà, yì fāngmiàn yòu duì zhèyàng dé wénhuà fēicháng de qūzhīruòwù ō.
I see this kind of behaviour and i think: "Eh, isn't this American culture? On one hand people are minimzing American culture; on the other hand they flock towards other parts of American culture such as this."

• 這個是...一點我非常無法理解的一個現象喔

Zhège shì...yì diǎn wǒ fēicháng wúfǎ lǐjiě de yì ge xiànxiàng ō.
This is... a phenomenon I just can't figure out.

• 到現在呢還是無法理解

Dào xiànzài nē háishì wúfǎ lǐjiě.
Even until now, I still can't understand this.

• 我不知道說大家有沒有這樣子的一個想法

Wŏ bùzhīdào shuō dàjiā yŏuméiyŏu zhè yàngzi de yígè xiăngfă.
I don't know if anyone else have had the same thought.

• 或是說, 有沒有曾經想過這樣子的一個問題喔

Huòshì shuō, yǒuméiyǒu céngjīng xiǎng guò zhè yàngzì de yìgè wèntí ō.
Or have, say, in the past thought about this question.
